Tests of Faith and Autism.

Last night, my wife and I talked about our current struggles with Josh.  We laid in the bed and we asked ourselves, "why did God give us such difficulty?  Why do we have to have the child that's so afraid to go to school, that he says things like "please destroy me so that I don't have to go to school!"

Neither of us had the answer.  We hope that one day, we might see that whatever God has planned for Josh and Gracie and us, that its something pretty good.  All we see at the moment is that its hard, frustrating and depressing too.  We sometimes feel imprisoned by his condition.

We asked his teachers for what was going on in school that could make him afraid, and they had no answers either.

We did discover something though; yesterday, his digestion improved, so he is no longer constipated.  Today, he did get on the bus, although it did take some persuasion. He still said "I don't feel good" several times.

It is possible that his colon may be having spasms after being blocked for such a long time.  Right now, that's the only theory we have and that's the one we're going with, particularly since its something we can work with.

So, does God answer prayers, yes he does,  He always does.  Does he expect us to learn? Yes he does.  He also expects to pass on what we learn to others in order to bless others who are facing the same situation.

So if you are a parent of someone with special needs like autism, and you feel trapped, afraid, alone and you question yourself constantly about your own parenting skills, then you are not alone.  We are also in the same boat in this journey, even though we are separated by distance.  God is with us, even though it is hard.  God always provides what we need.

We reach out to you all so that together, we can be stronger.

I will post more about our journey and I plan to keep a daily log so that we have a better understanding.  Feel free to comment

Praise the Lord, for he is good!
